Hello, I’m Cindy and welcome to Improv inTO! This blog is about the wonderful world of Improvisation. It focuses on a class I’m currently taking at the Second City Training Centre in Toronto, Canada: Improv for Actors. In this blog, I take you through each of our classes, describing improvisational exercises and sharing lessons learned. I will also write about improv activities and events that take place outside of class, mostly at the Second City in Toronto.
Here are some things to know about me and this blog:
- I’m new to blogging
This is my first blog. I’m excited to have entered the realm of blogging. I invite and encourage your feedback – please comment, follow my blog, email me with any thoughts, suggestions, advice, questions, recipes. I love to hear from you.
- My life is evolving
I’ve had a lot of recent changes in my life. Within the past few months, I lost a parent to cancer, I got married, and I moved to a new city. All of these changes had a big impact on me. There are days that I wonder how I got to where I am today. In this confusion, I know that life is short and life is beautiful, and I want to embrace it even more. For me, this means taking more risks, hesitating less and just diving in. What better way to do this than by practicing improvisation?
- About “Improv for Actors”
Improv for Actors is an accelerated improv program at the Second City in Toronto. It is a beginner’s level improv course for students who have studied acting, or are currently working as an actor.
- Why I am studying Improv
I’ve been working in the corporate world for over 10 years. It’s been an exciting journey, allowing me to travel and gain many skills, but still I yearn for something more. In my pursuit to “Do more, think less,” I’ve decided to take this improv class for personal exploration and to see where it takes me. It’s also a lot of fun. But mostly, I believe the lessons learned through the practice of improvisation, are lessons that can be translated into all areas of life.
- Why I am blogging
I have an interest in journalism, and as part of my “diving in” and exploration, I’ve decided to blog about my class, personal lessons, and use this as a journal to record exercises and activities from our class.
I hope you will enjoy my blog. Thanks for stopping by!
